Franz Wrousis is alleged to have launched his assault at a health insurance office shortly after 10:30 local time (08:30 GMT). Charlie Gard parents end legal fight as time runs out for 'beautiful' baby

Image
The parents of terminally ill baby Charlie Gard have ended their legal challenge to take him to the US for experimental treatment. A lawyer representing Chris Gard and Connie Yates told the High Court "time had run out" for the baby. Mr Gard said it meant his "sweet, gorgeous, innocent little boy" will not reach his first birthday on 4 August. "To let our beautiful little Charlie go" is "the hardest thing we'll ever have to do", his mother said. Charlie's parents said they made the decision because a US doctor said it was now too late to give Charlie nucleoside therapy. We only wanted to give him a chance of life," Ms Yates told the court in a statement. "A whole lot of time has been wasted," she added. "We are sorry we could not save you." A lawyer representing Chris Gard and Connie Yates told the High Court that "time had run out" for the baby. It means Charlie will not reach his...

Nigerians To Pay N7.45/kwh More For Electricity (see Price List)

Barring any last-minute change, electricity consumers in Nigeria are to pay between N2.89 and N7.45 per kilowatt hour (kwh) increase in the new cost reflective tariff slated for announcement before October, New Telegraph has learnt. Investigations showed that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), an agency in charge of the tariff, which completed receipts of complaints on the tariff review after expiration of 30-day window, is “awaiting final signal” from Presidency before it would announce the new tariff. The Federal Government had, checks by this newspaper revealed, already yielded to pressure from power investors to go ahead with the major tariff review, which reflects the “current economic realities.” Referring to the hike as marginal increase, a draft copy of the tariff sighted by New Telegraph showed that the monthly/quarterly review is expected to be reflected differently by the 11 electricity distribution companies. “There are five factors considered for the ne...

Let Obamacare fail - Trump's new plan

Image
President Donald Trump has said the new Republican healthcare policy should be to allow the current law to collapse. "As I have always said, let ObamaCare fail and then come together and do a great healthcare plan. Stay tuned!" he tweeted. Support for the Republican Senate bill fell apart on Monday when two more senators said they could not back it. The party's Senate leader, Mitch McConnell, immediately vowed to hold a vote to repeal Obamacare only. During a speech from the Senate floor on Tuesday, Mr McConnell said Republicans would "push forward" with a plan to repeal Obamacare and replace it with a "two-year, stable transition" period to give Congress time to come up with a replacement plan. "We should not give up," Mr McConnell said. "Passing this legislation will provide an opportunity for senators of all parties to engage with a fresh start and a new beginning for the American people." President Trump ba...

Mighty T. rex 'walked rather than sprinted'

Image
The size and weight of a T. rex would have prevented it from moving faster than 20km/h (12mph), research suggests. University of Manchester scientists used a new computer simulation to assess the speed of the massive biped. Based on T. rex 's muscles alone, the model came up with a maximum speed of 30km/h, but this dropped to 20km/h when skeletal strength was assessed too. Had it moved from a brisk walk to a sprint, the dinosaur's legs would have snapped under the weight of its body. " T. rex is everyone's favourite dinosaur, and palaeontologists have been arguing for years about how fast it could run because this would tell us something about its hunting style and the way it caught its prey,'' said Prof William Sellers. ''This project used a highly realistic computer simulation to predict how T. rex moved, and it shows that running would have been impossible because its skeleton just isn't strong enough. ''That means that T....

Lockheed Martin profits jump on higher F-35 jet sales

Image
Increased sales of the F-35 fighter jet have helped Lockheed Martin, the biggest supplier of defence equipment to the US military, to report better-than-expected profits. The F-35, formerly known as the Joint Strike Fighter, is being built by the US defence giant in partnership with other countries, including the UK. Lockheed Martin reported a 5% rise in second-quarter profits to $942m. The company also raised its sales and profit forecasts for 2017. The company said sales in its aeronautics business, its most important division, were up by almost 20% in the second quarter of the year. The F-35 programme is the US defence department's most expensive, something President Donald Trump singled out last year for criticism. The UK has so far ordered 24 of the jets, the first of which are due to go into service with the RAF and the Royal Navy next year. The short take-off and vertical landing planes, which will be known as the Lightning II, are set to be deployed on...

Dunkirk: do Oscars beckon for Nolan's war epic?

Image
The reviews are in - and most film critics have heaped praise on Christopher Nolan's World War II film Dunkirk. It stars Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, and of course, One Direction star Harry Styles. The film is set in 1940 and is about the famous rescue of 338,000 Allied troops from the beaches of Dunkirk, France. The film is released across the UK on Friday. So is it the the best film of the year so far? Here's what the experts think: Peter Debruge - Variety Though the subject matter is leagues (and decades) removed from the likes of Inception and The Dark Knight, the result is so clearly a Christopher Nolan film - from its immersive, full-body suspense to the sophisticated way he manipulates time and space - that his fans will eagerly follow en masse to witness the achievement. And what an achievement it is! Read the full review here. Robbie Collin - The Telegraph Like all great war films, it's every bit as transfixing up close: at t...

Bregoli will be sentenced next month in a hearing. The internet sensation hasn't addressed her legal drama, but her father spoke out against her wild antics, telling reporters that he thinks it's a bad idea for Bregoli to live in Los Angeles with her mother, Barbara Bregoli. "I am the only parent in this relationship with Danielle that is trying to see the best thing for this child," Ira Peskowitz said. "To have her be an asset to the community, to understand what love is and to understand what family is about."   NBC reports that Bregoli could also face charges for a battery incident earlier this year after she and her friends were caught on surveillance video attacking a group of women outside of Kavasutra Kava Bar. Saudi woman sparks social media firestorm, could face punishment after posting video of herself in miniskirt

Image
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — A young Saudi woman sparked a sensation online over the weekend by posting a video of herself in a miniskirt and crop top walking around in public, with some Saudis calling for her arrest and others rushing to her defense. State-linked news websites reported on Monday that officials in the deeply conservative Muslim country are looking into taking possible action against the woman, who violated the kingdom's rules of dress. Women in Saudi Arabia must wear long, loose robes known as abayas in public. Most also cover their hair and face with a black veil, though exceptions are made for visiting dignitaries. The video, first shared on Snapchat, shows her walking around an empty historic fort in Ushaiager, a village north of the capital, Riyadh, in the desert region of Najd, where many of Saudi Arabia's most conservative tribes and families are from. Competing Twitter hashtags emerged, with one demanding the woman...

Deadpool is the BBFC's most complained about film of 2016

Image
Deadpool generated the most complaints to the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) in 2016, the body has revealed. The Marvel film, which was rated 15, received 51 complaints that focused on the level of "bloody violence". It also attracted complaints about sex references and strong language. Suicide Squad, the DC Comics film, received 31 complaints. Referring to Deadpool, the BBFC said in a statement : "Though the violence is strong and frequently bloody, this often occurs during fast-paced action sequences with little focus on detail." "There is also a comic tone to the violence, and the film's fantastical setting further distances it from reality." The BBFC explained that although strong sex references do occur throughout the film, "most of these are in the form of comic verbal quips or innuendo." Despite complaints, 2016 saw Deadpool, starring Ryan Reynolds, become one of the highest-grossing films of all time, gene...

Hint For Ladies Who Want To Marry This Year But Have No Serious Relationship Yet

1. Start jogging every morning in areas where there are a lot of male joggers too, your future husband might be keeping fit. 2. Lion parts 'sold as fake tiger products' in Asia

Image
Trade in bones and other parts of lions that are made to appear as tiger products is thriving in Chinese and South East Asian markets, a leading wildlife group says. China's ban on the sale of tiger products has led to unscrupulous traders substituting them with lion parts, the UK-based Environment Investigation Agency (EIA) said. South Africa is the largest exporter of lion parts to Asia, it added. EIA is pushing for the trade to be banned, saying it encourages poaching. It released its report as a meeting of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (Cites) begins in Switzerland. Cites allows limited trade on body parts of lions bred in captivity. The South African government last month announced an export quota of 800 skeletons, causing concern among conservation organizations

You Were In Power For 16 Years But Failed To Restructure Nigeria – APC Fires PDP

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has slammed the former ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over its ongoing calls for the restructuring of Nigeria. The party wondered why PDP suddenly woke up to realize that Nigeria needed to be restrucutured but failed to do so while it was in power between 1999-2015. Speaking with Nation, Hon. Hilliard Etta, the National Vice Chairman (Southsouth) of the party said, Nigerians needed to give the APC time as it would surely fulfill all electioneering campaign promises. He said, “I don’t know if it is essentially about the APC. But some Nigerians are very quick to enter judgement when it comes to APC. The APC has been in power for two years and in these two years, you are aware of what has attended our presidency. It is disingenuous for people to now look at the APC and say those types of things that they say. “If is unfortunately because, whenever these things are done, I think they are just amplifying or reciting the propaganda of ...
