'I cut my hair even shorter today. Do we like it or is it too short?' she asked her followers.  In a previous interview with PeopleStyle , Kim revealed the intense process when she first lightened it.  'I was so scared that my hair would get ruined. Why North Korea’s nuclear test is still producing aftershocks

Image
North Korea's nuclear test in September didn't just generate diplomatic shockwaves but also a 6.3 magnitude earthquake. Aftershocks have continued ever since, and on Saturday the US Geological Survey said it had detected two more, sparking significant debate about what might be going on underground. What happened during the nuclear test? On 3 September, North Korea tested its most powerful nuclear bomb to date at its Punggye-ri test site in the mountains in its northwest. Pyongyang claimed it was a hydrogen bomb , which would have made it a device many times more powerful than an atomic bomb. Experts have expressed concerns the explosion might have been so powerful it could destabilise the surrounding mountains. Why are aftershocks still happening? According to the USGS, last weekend's tremors were "relaxation events". They measured a magnitude of 2.9 and 2.4. "When you have a large nuclear test, it moves the earth's crust around the ...

Baby born with heart outside body 'doing well'

Image
A baby born with her heart outside her body has survived after surgery at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester. Vanellope Hope Wilkins, who has no breastbone, was delivered three weeks ago by Caesarean section. She has had three operations to place her heart back in her chest. The condition, ectopia cordis, is extremely rare, with only a few cases per million births, of which most are stillborn. The hospital says it knows of no other case in the UK where the baby has survived. Her parents, Naomi Findlay, 31, and Dean Wilkins, 43, from Nottingham, say Vanellope is "a real fighter". Naomi said: "It was a real shock when the ultrasound showed that her heart was outside her chest and scary because we didn't know what would happen." The couple paid for a blood test which showed there were no chromosomal abnormalities and that made them determined to continue with the pregnancy. Dean added: "We were advised to have a termination and that the chances o...

Roy Moore defeat: Democrat Doug Jones wins in Alabama Senate upset

Image
Doug Jones has become the first Democrat in 25 years to win a US Senate seat for Alabama after a bitter campaign against Republican Roy Moore. His unexpected victory deals a blow to President Donald Trump, who backed Mr Moore, and narrows the Republican majority in the Senate to 51-49. Mr Moore has so far refused to concede. All votes have now been counted. He fought a controversial campaign, in which allegations surfaced of sexual misconduct with teenage girls. Mr Moore, a firebrand conservative who has said he believes that homosexual activity should be illegal, has repeatedly denied the claims against him. The contest was for the seat vacated by US Attorney General Jeff Sessions earlier this year. Why hasn't Roy Moore conceded? Mr Jones won with 49.9% of the vote, to Mr Moore's 48.4%. The margin of victory is well above the half a percentage point which would have triggered a recount. But Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill, quoted by the Washington...

‘Where Is The $65bn Obasanjo Left In Excess Crude Account?’ Amaechi Fires At GEJ

Image
Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, has fired yet another shot at former President Goodluck Jonathan. This comes less than a week after the minister said the time to stop blaming Jonathan had come. Speaking with NAN in Lagos, Amaechi said former President Olusegun Obasanjo left $65 billion in the excess crude account but it was frittered away. WHAT IS EXCESS CRUDE ACCOUNT? It is an account used to save oil revenues above an amount derived from a defined benchmark price. ECA was established in 2004. Its objective is primarily to protect planned budgets against shortfalls due to volatile crude oil prices. Amaechi said the wastage in the PDP era was alarming. “When Obasanjo was leaving, he left about 65 billion dollars in the excess crude account, but this money was frittered away and we wonder where the money is,” he said. “As at then, the price of crude oil during the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration hovered around 140 dollars with this, they di...

Saraki Reacts To Appeal Court Judgement Ordering His Retrial

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has reacted to the decision of the Appeal Court sending him back to the Code of Conduct Tribunal to answer to three charges on false asset declarations. Mr. Saraki said he is vindicated by the decision of the court to strike out 15 of the 18 charges levelled against him. The Nigerian government had appealed the acquittal of the Senate President earlier this year by the CCT. The tribunal had dismissed all 18-count allegations of false and anticipatory declaration of asset by Mr. Saraki. At its sitting on Tuesday, the Court of Appeal ruled that Mr. Saraki did not sufficiently answer three of the charges. In a statement by his media aide, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Mr. Saraki said the decision of the court further proves his innocence. “We noted the verdict of the Court of Appeal Court today in which it agreed with the decision of the Code of Conduct Tribunal that Senate President, Bukola Saraki has no case to answer on 15 of the 18 charges filed ag...

2019: PDP Begins Search For Candidate

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chiefs are to raise a search panel for a credible presidential candidate, a source said yesterday. A senior party official, who pleaded not to be named, said the party had decided to scout for a “sellable” candidate who can match President Muhammadu Buhari, who is believed to be interested in a second term. “We have made mistakes in the past. We violated zoning and we paid dearly for it. We are considering going for a presidential candidate, who will withstand the predictable propaganda of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government. We want to get it right. If we want to win, we must get a better candidate; a candidate that is better than what the APC will offer because Nigerians will compare and contrast,” the source said. 2019: Buhari May Pick Tinubu As VP

Fourteen months to the next presidential election, there are indications that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may have President Muhammadu Buhari-Asiwaju Bola Tinubu ticket, as one of its jokers for the 2019 election. Competent sources close to The Redeemed Church told Daily Sun that Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, may have indicated to the church authorities that he would not be averse to a return to pastoral life. He is a senior pastor of the church conglomerate. Although president Buhari is yet to officially declare his bid for re-election, apart from a recent declaration that he may seek Nigerians’ votes again, it was gathered that Osinbajo’s replacement with Tinubu is being mooted as a way to have a solid South West support for the APC, in the face of a South East-South-South alliance in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Competent sources said the APC and Buhari tendencies in the party, which want another victory in 2019, reasoned that it is i...
